Ingress is a game developed by Niantic Labs is probably the best AR game available right now. The game allows you to choose between two sides, Enlightened or Resistance. The gameplay will then depend on the choice you make. Your surroundings become the game environment where you will need to collect objects, tap sources of energy or capture enemy territory. The game is currently in closed beta but will soon be made available to the public.

When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) wanted to fight animal poachers—illegal hunters of wildlife—they decided to bring in an unorthodox weapon: Drones. But these drones were different from the killer Predators of public imagination. Instead, they were unarmed, superlightweight, and users launch them by throwing them into the air—in fact, they are heavily modified model aircraft. After negotiations, Nepal was chosen as a pilot site for the wildlife drones. First launched in mid-2012, the WWF drones offered a new, experimental method of stopping poachers.

Now, wildlife-protecting drones are coming to the rest of the world. Last week, Google announced they would help the WWF purchase African and Asian poacher-seeking UAVs. As part of Google’s 2012 Global Impact Awards program, the WWF received $5 million to buy similar unarmed drones to watch and track African wildlife poachers.

The other day I sat in deep thought about how my #teamgradschool experience could be more fulfilling if I weren’t my advisor’s only grad student and instead worked on a research team…

Meeting with my advisor once a week is great and all but in the off time I wish I had another student struggling to find answers in the same data set I comb through on the regular now…

But since everyone doesn’t get their way all time, I got the next best thing…

Why? I’m just coming from the @R4NSBE #RLC2012 in Youngstown, OH and it was another great experience. My first time going to a conference in the fo’ and going to Youngstown (even though I’m from Ohio). Even though the numbers weren’t strong they worked with what they had and made sure those who came left prepared to go out and achieve the Mission. I met many great chapter leaders who were excited to train with their regional leaders and eager to go get started with the year. Equally important, I had the opportunity to meet and get to know the R4 regional leadership. Each of the leaders are young with unique talents that when given the right opportunity will allow this board to truly flourish. This weekend was a bit of a crash course for them in conference management but the character they displayed in pulling together to make sure what needed to be done got done really speaks to the potential for greatness this board possesses. I’m looking forward to seeing them continue growing as student leaders and continue growing within their respective positions. Thank you for allowing me to share in your success @R4NSBE!
